Director / Artist
Woodkid (Yoann Lemoine)
Yoann Lemoine
Yoann Lemoine directs under his own name and records as Woodkid, and the two halves feed each other. Before the music, he made some of the defining pop videos of the early 2010s: Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream', Lana Del Rey's 'Born to Die' and 'Blue Jeans', Drake's 'Take Care'.
Then he turned the camera on himself. 'Iron' and 'Run Boy Run' are black-and-white, orchestral and deliberately mythological — a boy pursued through a monochrome wilderness by giants, shot with the gravity of a war epic. 'Run Boy Run' won two UK Music Video Awards and took a Grammy nomination.
He is now as much a composer as a director, scoring Desierto and the Arcane series, and his directing carries that discipline: the image is built to serve a swell, not a cut.
